Our Winter Services
Ice dam removal
We use steam machines that gently melt the ice. No hammers, picks or chipping, which can wreck shingles and gutters. We also have an emergency ice dam team.
Roof raking
We pull heavy snow off the roof with long, non-scratching roof rakes. It takes weight off your roof and helps stop ice dams before they start. It’s a good idea after a storm drops more than 6 inches of snow.
Snow guards
Snow guards keep big sheets of snow and ice from sliding off the roof onto people, cars, walkways and your gutters.
Alu-Rex T-Rex hangers
Continuous hangers that make gutters stronger under snow and ice.
Shoveling and snowblowing
We can clear snow around your home, too. Ask when you call.
Where we work
Our New Hampshire offices are in Jaffrey, Grantham and Salem, and we cover homes within 90 minutes of each one. We’re willing to travel farther for cleanings, repairs and estimates. Every winter visit includes a free gutter inspection.
Get Ready Before Winter
- Get your gutters cleaned in the fall, after the leaves drop. See our cleaning packages.
- Make sure downspouts carry water away from your foundation.
- Look for gutters that sag, pull away or leak, and get them repaired before snow adds weight.
- Ask about snow guards if snow slides off your roof onto walkways, cars or decks.
Will gutter guards cause ice?
You may see ice on the guards sooner, and water can drip over the front of the gutter. That’s normal in winter, especially with a guard, and it isn’t caused by the gutters or guards. See gutter guards and Alu-Rex.
Why Ice Dams Happen
Heat from the house melts snow on the roof. That water runs down to the cold edge and freezes again. The ice blocks the next melt, so water backs up under the shingles and can leak into your home.
Gutters don’t cause ice dams, but clogged gutters can make them worse, so clean them before winter. The long-term fix is sealing air leaks, adding attic insulation and venting the roof.

While We’re on Your Roof
We also hang holiday lights: design, installation, upkeep during the season, takedown and storage. Spots fill up fast, so book early.

Winter Services FAQ
1. What is an ice dam?
It’s a ridge of ice along the edge of your roof. Heat from the house melts snow on the roof, the water runs down to the cold edge and freezes again, and the ice blocks the next melt so water backs up under the shingles.
2. How do you remove ice dams?
We use steam machines that gently melt the ice. No hammers, picks or chipping, which can wreck shingles and gutters.
3. Why shouldn’t I chip ice off myself?
Hammers and picks can easily damage a roof and gutters, and climbing an icy roof is dangerous. Call us instead.
4. What should I have ready before you arrive?
Just give us access, an outdoor water spigot that works, and power if we need it. Melted water can freeze again on walkways, so salt or sand those areas afterward.
5. Do you offer emergency service?
Yes. Call us. We have an emergency ice dam removal team.
6. When do I need roof raking?
After a storm drops more than 6 inches of snow. Raking takes weight off your roof and helps stop ice dams before they start.
7. How can I stop ice dams for good?
Keep your gutters clean before winter. Then talk to an insulation pro about sealing air leaks, adding attic insulation and venting the roof, so less heat reaches the roof.
