Ice Dam Removal Cost

Short answer: the average ice dam removal job we did in 2026 cost $2,600. Clearing one side of a house usually runs $1,000 to $1,750. Homes with ice along several roof edges can run $1,500 to $8,050 or more. Emergency ice dam removal is $1,000 for the first hour (1-hour minimum), then $500 for each additional 30 minutes, so the size of the dam and the height of the roof drive the total.

Ice dam removal prices

How much iceTypical range
One side of the house$1,000 to $1,750
Multiple roof edges$1,500 to $8,050

What changes the price

  • How much ice. A short run over one door is quick. Thick ice along every eave takes hours.
  • Height. A two-story roof adds about 15%. Three stories adds about 30%, because it takes longer to reach safely.
  • Roof shape. Valleys, low slopes and dormers trap more ice.

How we remove ice dams

We use steam, not hammers or chisels. Steam cuts the ice into blocks without damaging your shingles or gutters. Watch the process and see real before and after photos on our Ice Dam Removal page.

Is it worth it?

If water is dripping inside, staining a ceiling or running down a wall, yes. Waiting usually costs more in drywall and insulation repairs than the removal itself. If you only have a few icicles and no leaks, it may be fine to watch it and fix the cause instead. Learn why ice dams happen and how to prevent them.
